Federal Ministry of Transportation, NRC and Borno State Government Embarks on Revitalization of Maiduguri Railway Line to Boost Economic Growth in Borno State

The Federal Ministry of Transport, in collaboration with the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC) and the Borno State Government, has embarked on plans to revitalize the Maiduguri railway line aimed at enhancing transportation, promoting agricultural productivity, and stimulating economic growth across the region.

A delegation from the Federal Ministry of Transport and the Nigeria Railway Corporation visited the Musa Usman Secretariat, where they held discussions with the Honourable Commissioners of Transport and Energy, and Works and Housing, on behalf of the State Government. The meeting focused on evaluating the existing railway infrastructure to identify sections requiring reconstruction and technical improvements.

The discussions also explored how a modernized and efficient railway system could strengthen economic activities, improve market accessibility, and expand trade opportunities within and beyond Borno State.

The revitalization project is expected to:

•Improve transportation links between Borno State and other parts of Nigeria.

•Increase economic activities and create new job opportunities for residents.

•Support agricultural and commercial growth through better logistics and connectivity.

•Contribute to the state’s overall development goals by providing a sustainable and reliable transport network.
